Kim Hyun Joong expressed his disinterest in acting when he first debuted as an actor. He’s long been criticized for his lack of acting skills, despite earning a number of lead roles due to his pretty face and popularity.
On the April 14 episode of MBC “K-Pop Star in the World – Lucky Guy Kim Hyun Joong,” the star actor/singer revealed his true feelings about the acting criticism. He said, “To be honest, and I’m sorry to all the sunbaes or people studying acting now, but I started out with absolutely no interest in acting. That’s probably why there were so many criticism on my acting in the early part of my career.”
Song Byung Joon, the director of Kim Hyun Joong’s two main dramas, “Boys over Flowers” and "Playful Kiss,” added, “His (Kim Hyun Joong) reading was literally just ‘reading’ the script. He read it like elementary school students reading their textbooks in class. At first the scriptwriter was frustrated. So we talked about it and I told the scriptwriter that since Kim Hyun Joong does not know what a ‘script reading’ session is, let’s try and wait to pull out his potential.”
Yang Yoon Ho, the producer of “Iris,” also said, “Of course I love Kim Hyun Joong, but the reason we bet on him is pretty clear. He has huge potential to become a mega star and he really takes good care of himself. His popularity now puts no pressure on him and he’s able to control everything. Even if his popularity grows, he seems like a person who will be able to handle it.”
Since his debut as part of SS501, Kim Hyun Joong expanded his resume to acting by appearing in the 2009 KBS drama “Boys over Flowers.” In 2010, he appeared in his second TV series, MBC “Playful Kiss.”
However, due to his lack of experience, many critics pointed to his poor acting skills and unclear articulation. There were also concerns that he lacked the charisma and leadership to play the lead role in any TV drama. But he’s been able to significantly improve his acting over the years and is now considered one of the very few idol stars with the star power to single-handedly lead a TV show.

On the April 14th broadcast of MBC‘s ‘K-Pop Star Captivating the World’, a close up of Kim Hyun Joong and his life was revealed to the viewers.
Of the many topics that he discussed, he talked about his rebellious past, in which he upset his parents over his stubborn pursuits of his musical desires, as well as his dream to become a world star. He even addressed the hot button issue if JYJ‘s Kim Jaejoong by saying that he continues to maintain a close bond with the star, who has had a tumultuous year, through their passion for music.
One of the topics that viewers were most interested in was his thoughts on his meteoric rise to Hallyu superstar status through his breakout drama, ‘Boys Over Flowers‘.
He said, “That was my first acting production, but at the time, I was not really interested. However, I always dream of becoming a world star these days. I think dreaming big dreams allows you to get closer to achieving them.”
During the broadcast, the president of Kim Hyun Joong’s management company spared no compliments regarding the star by saying, “Kim Hyun Joong is excellent at taking care of himself and has a gift in maintaining a steady heart in any situation. He is very smart and tries much harder in his endeavors than others.”

Singer + actor Kim Hyun Joong expresses his regret for not recognizing Lee Min Jung‘s beauty sooner.
Kim Hyun Joong filled in for Shindong, who is overseas for a schedule on his radio show MBC ‘Simsimtapa’.
On this day, Kim Hyun Joong, Trax’s Jung Mo, and 8eight’s Joo Hee were giving each other quiz on actress Lee Min Jung. Then a short time later a segment called ‘The production crews’ confession’ continued and a background song started playing.
Kim Hyun Joong spoke his mind, “I don’t know how I was not aware that Lee Min Jung was so beautiful back then. I think the late night work got to me and my eyes were tired. It’s really nice to see her work so hard at her craft nowadays. I would love to work with her one day.”
After listening to Kim Hyun Joong’s confession the radio listeners chimed in via the live chat, “The audio letter was daebak”, “The production crews cornered him to say those things haha~”, “I think Lee Min Jung would be so happy if she heard this”, “I hope you’ll get to work with Lee Min Jung next time”, and the radio listeners showed appreciation to his candor.

[Article] Kim Hyun Joong (김현중) says he can speak with dogs, but not overseas dogs
Kim Hyun Joong said he could speak with dogs, making people curious about his mentality.
On MBC’s Come to Play, aired on the 24th, Kim Hyun Joong, Eun Ji Won, Kim Ji Sook, and Baekdoosan’s members – Kim Do Gyun and Park Chan made guest appearance for its “Stars from Andromeda Special.”
On the day’s episode, Kim Hyun Joong said, “I can speak with all types of dogs and make all kinds of conversation.”
Kim Hyun Joong continued, “when I ask the dog if he wants to eat by barking at him, then the dog responses. When I ask him to see somewhere by barking at him, then he also responses. It differs little bit whether it is a big one or a small one.”
He also said, “I can speak with all types of dogs in Korea. However, I can’t speak with overseas dogs which is quite weird. I tried once but overseas dogs don’t even try to listen to me.”
To this, Park Chan asked, “then how do domestic dogs and overseas dogs speak to each other?” and Kim Hyun Joon answered sincerely, “I guess they just feel each other,” raising a laugh.

Singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong revealed a rather naughtier side of himself on the recent episode of ‘Come to Play’.
When asked, “If you were an invisible person, where would you want to go?” Kim Hyun Joong said that he would like to enter a women’s bathhouse.
Co-guest Park Chanee previously stated, “It was a dream of mine to enter a women’s bath since I was young,” to which Kim Hyun Joong added, “When I was younger, I thought of wanting to go to a women’s bath often as well. If I were an invisible man, I think I’ll want to go to a
women’s bath.” Guest Kim Do Gyoon then commented, “It’s the dream of all men. To want to go to a women’s bath first if one was invisible is a man’s instinct,” causing laughter in the studio.

1) HyunJoong said that after his solo debut, 'I'm Your Man' is his first slow-tempo (ballad) song, a song to confess love, or a wishing song, he knows that some of the fans are getting married soon, although he cannot present himself on their weddings, he hoped that this song will be able to cherish the wedding couples. Then, a listener called in and she said for the bridegroom's sake, it's better if HyunJoong doesn't attend their wedding.
2) His Asia Tour concert will probably be kicking off next year, around end of January or early February. His Japan Nationwide Tour will be starting this November and he is currently preparing for it. So JYH asked that it would be hard to see him on variety shows then HyunJoong said that's there's really nothing much left to say if he attended too many shows...JYH said even if he just sit and smile during the show it would suffice already...but HyunJoong said it's tiresome if he sit there for 10 hours straight in a row. (did he mean Strong Heart recording last time? The recording this time took 6hours)
3) JYH asked how's HyunJoong lately and he said he's fine although he's been practising his dance choreography til' late night.
4) A listener called in and said she saw HyunJoong and his dancers, Artmatic at a soup restaurant yesterday (as in 16th of October), she wanted to ask him for an autograph but she's afraid she might disturbed them so she didn't approach. HyunJoong said he indeed have went to the soup restaurant yesterday. The listener sent in her address through text message, and so, HyunJoong sent his autograph to the address. (envy envy!!)
