Kim Hyun Joong stood proud as a hallyu star in Singapore, as many foreign media outlets rushed to report his every word.
Kim was bombarded with questions at the welcome meeting event held in Singapore on November 29 for the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA).
Kim will be attending MAMA as a nominee for both the Male Singer Award and the Best Solo Dance Performance Award, and at the press conference, he received questions from press from Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan and Germany.
Everyone seemed to be interested on whether Kim had any plans to visit their own country, and showed great interest in Kim’s future plans for overseas promotions.
When the Hong Kong press asked whether he had any plans to visit Hong Kong, Kim said, “I visited Hong Kong because I was awarded for three years in a row at the Yahoo Asia Buzz Awards which [awards its nominees based on] online polls. I hope I get to go this year, too.”
The Philippine press asked whether he had any new projects for his Philippine fans, and he answered, “I’ll be acting again in a drama in April next year. My Philippine fans will also be able to see me act then.”
The Japanese press wished to know how he felt about being a solo singer and what kind of music he wished to sing in the future. Kim said, “It’s true that solo promotions are physically and emotionally more draining than group promotions. I still have a long way to go, but I’ll work harder.”
The German press asked Kim what he thought about German women. He answered, “I don’t know about German women, but Germany reminds me of dark beer and sausages.” He made his audience laugh by saying, “I believe that Germans drink a lot of dark beer even during lunch.”
The 2011 MAMA will hold a grand show in Singapore with not only Korean artists, but artists from around the world to fit its main concept Music Makes One, a dream to bring the world together through music. The show will be aired live in 13 countries around the world, while recorded versions will be aired in seven.

Kim Hyun Joong met with 30,000 fans in Osaka, Sapporo, Sendai, Hiroshima, Yokohama, Nagoya, Tokyo, and Fukuoka during the 2 weeks starting November 9th.
Kim Hyun Joong gave the fans a fantastic stage with top of the line sessions and production teams, laser beams, and even a stage produced specifically for his performance. He mesmerized the fans with the kinds of charms that have not been seen during his promotional periods on music programs.
Kim Hyun Joong put on colorful performances with the hits off of his 1st and 2nd mini albums, including ‘Lucky Guy’, ‘Break Down’, and ‘Kiss Kiss’. But he also presented other songs that were loved by his fans, on stage for the first time and the response was no less heated than his comeback stage.
It is also said that through the talk time with the fans, Kim Hyun Joong openly discussed many things in an honest and friendly manner.
On November 23, the last day of the tour, the fans of Fukuoka continue to applaud and request encores. Even after the fan meeting was over, many fans could not leave the area full of emotions from the performance causing a bit of chaos in the area.
After releasing his 2nd mini album ‘Lucky’ back in October, Kim Hyun Joong has dominated the online music sales charts and mobile downloads, he has also the won the No.1

The number one criteria in claiming success in any music concert is through attendance. The ability to have sold out concerts on that criteria alone,Hyun Joong passed with flying colors.
Though the 7 Japan cities music tour that started 9th and ended 23 rd of November were not held in huge areas, the smaller venue allowed the fans and Hyun Joong to have a personal and upclose meet up and interaction with one another.
The atmophere as per fan account tell us , were beyond exciting complete with glowing lights, screaming,chanting of the attendees of different genders and ages. It must have been bewitching short hours,where Hyun Joong showed the fans his charms ,besides performing his songs from the two mini albums and his favorite solo songs of a different era, dancing in slow motion, singing acapella, answering their questions, giving out special prizes such as his favorite hooded sweatshirt, hat, hugs and special stage invitation to a few lucky fans. The fans had the opportunity not only to listen and watch Hyun Joong live but become part of his celebration of his musical career ‘s achievement. Hyun Joong was visibly very happy that his dream has finally come to fruition. For those who were not there,Hyun Joong promised there will be more concerts ,and more new songs.
The music tour featured his solo songs in his dance music that by now bears the Hyun Joong signature trademark. As promised, he delivered the performances passionately as in visibly with high energy and with all his heart , professionally , and as fancams showed us unwavering confidence and competence. If it was an exhilarating experience for the audience to be present in a live performance , more so with the artist who now see his audience reactions -in applause and acceptance translating into unequivocal success.It must have warmed Hyun Joong’s heart even in this cold last days of the Fall.
Certainly this is not the first time for Hyun Joong to be performing on the stage for concerts. He has done that a lot with his group. Though it is often said, one’s past performance privileged the present, still being solo in a concert is different. Here one has no one but himself to rely on. And only a live crowd can give him that immediate feedback. It helped tremendously that the social media is actively at work, he has a loyal fanbase,had been awarded by music shows, placed number one in international music charts and is a recognized face in Kpop and it can be added a familiar face in commercial endorsements.
Perhaps, what is seldom pointed out in concerts and live performances is its being able to sell CD’s and related merchandises bearing the name of the artist ,in this case towels as we saw in fancams. Though most attendees and buyers probably will call them mementos and souvenirs of their wonderful experience.
Behind the scenes shots and videos of practices, airport and concert venue arrivals and departures and actual footages of the concert were provided through the internet by enthusiatic fans. Thus, the vast majority became virtual attendees who vicariously experienced Hyun Joong’s concerts.We followed him faithfully city after city in these inspired performances.
In this age of vast improved internet technology we were able to be there for him-awed by his stage presence and cheered through our monitor screens. We were news hungry about Hyun Joong and went through his interview portions to get glimpses of what kind of talks had transpired. It helped that we also know that KeyEast will also be providing us with the official documentation of the concerts in DVD’s sooner or later.
Hyun Joong is now a certified solo concert artist. Besides the usual criteria , success is determined in what his fans can remember vividly and what becomes etched in the heart.

Kim Hyun Joong started touring on November 9 in Osaka and he visited 7 Japanese cities, including, Sapporo, Sendai, Hiroshima, Yokohama, Nagoya, and Tokyo. He will hold his last fan meeting in Fukuoka on November 23.
Kim Hyun Joong attended the rehearsal seriously and acted professionally, even though the venue was empty.
He said he will do his best to make the performance the best for his fans. Many fans are sad because this is Kim Hyun Joong's last tour date.
Kim Hyun Joong's second mini album Lucky, which was released in November, ranked first on the "Imported Album Category" of the Japanese Oricon Daily Chart.

THE demand for Korean pop culture in Singapore is unquestionable. Fans take time out to catch the Korean dramas and movies on television, in the cinemas, online, and they don’t mind queuing up 36 hours before a concert starts – even if it’s just a short showcase of five songs. And they won’t think twice about forking out over S$100 just to have a meet-and-greet session with their favourite stars.
The K-pop phenomenon has spread like wild fire around the world, even in a place as secluded as Bhutan.
Last week, economist Song Seng Wun and his family were holidaying in the landlocked kingdom when something caugh this eye: A poster of Korean female pop group Girls’ Generation (or SNSD, the acronym for So Nyeo Shi Dae, the Korean name for the girls).
“K-pop fever has reached this high mountain, too!” wrote Song in an email to TODAY. “There are posters of SNSD, SHINee,etcetera. I cannot believe it!”
Come Nov 29, every K-pop fan – even those in Bhutan – will want to be at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, if only because our little island is playing host to the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), the largest awards show celebrating Korean pop music. Co-produced by Mnet and MediaCorp VizPro International, this is only the second time the awards show is being staged outside of Korea since it first began back in 1999. (The first was in Macau last year.)
There will be 24 awards handed out during the four-hour extravaganza (six, if you include the two-hour red carpet segment), including awards for Album Of The Year, Best Music Video, Song Of The Year and Best Asian Artist.
What’s cool about this year’s do is that there will be a Singapore’s Choice category specially set up, and fans here can vote for their favourite band, such as 2PM, 2NE1, Beast, Big Bang, Girls’ Generation, TVXQ and more.
And, yes, there will be performances by top music acts such as Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, 2NE1, Kim Hyun Joong, Beast and Miss A. And movie and TV stars such as Lee Byung Hun, Kim Hee Sun, Han Chae Young, Yoon Eun Hae, Han Hyo Joo, Yoon Sung Ah, Oh Jee Ho and Kim Sung Soo will be along to present. And that’s only the tip of the K-pop iceberg.
Naturally, fans can’t wait to go. “Being part of something special and probably once in a lifetime experience is something I hope I won’t miss,” said Victoria Lee, 19, who is looking forward to catching 2NE1 and SNSD.
“Both groups are girl group power houses in Korea, and have their own unique charm,” she said. “I love 2NE1′s stage presence and how they can just rock out any stage. SNSD too, as I’ve followed them since their debut.”
Said 17-year-old student Tan Weiru: “I bought tickets (because of) the SM Entertainment artistes – SNSD Girls Generation, Super Junior and TVXQ (who aren’t going to be here because of their busy schedule). I was hoping for SHINee to come, too, but they didn’t get nominated … I’m looking forward to see 2NE1 and hopefully Big Bang too! Also, Song Joongki, because everyone seems to be such a big fan of his.”
“I’ll be going for 2NE1,” said Pearline Ng, 19. “If I have to pay the same price to only see 2NE1, I will (still) go. I like them because their music is different and they – especially CL – are very good on stage. (It’s) not so much the synchronised dances you see from SNSD or other K-pop groups, but more of them doing their own thing in their own style. Plus, I really like all of their songs. Nothing (other than not being able to get tickets) will stop me!”
Apparently, lots of people agree with her, considering the tickets are almost sold out. Said Lee: “You never know when MAMA is going to come back, or when another opportunity like this will come where tons of Korean celebrities are together in one place and event.”
